Although they have a similar look, Conservatories and Glassrooms are vastly different in many ways, and we are here to tell you why a Glassroom is an all-round better choice! Both are for enjoying your outdoor space and aim to let you enjoy outdoor living all year long. Conservatories are more of an extension to your home where as Glassrooms are seen as a way to extend your outdoor living, bringing your indoors out.
A glassroom is often a better choice than a traditional of a conservatory, with many more benefits including it being a more modern / planning friendly choice a glass room is a fantastic way to enjoy your outdoor living with a completely bespoke product.
Conservatories
Conservatories became popular in the later 19th century; they were traditional attached to the main house and used as a place to grow plants due to them retaining heat so well. The legal definition of a conservatory is a building with at least 50% side walls and 75% roof area with translucent glass or polycarbonate glazing. Conservatories are perfect for growing plants due to the amount of glazing; however, this makes them nearly unbearable in the ever-hotter British summers as they are far too hot, and they do not retain heat in the winter so become uncomfortably cold and most families do not use them for most of the year due to this. So, remember, your plants will do well, you however will more than likely choose somewhere else to relax.
With most conservatories you will require some sort of planning permission and are very restricted on size and other regulations if you want to avoid this. A conservatory can extend backward from the rear wall of the 'original house' by up to eight metres for a detached house and six metres for semi-detached houses. But if the structure is more than four metres the neighbour consultation scheme applies, and the local planning authority must be informed.
Other Restrictions that you need to check before installing a conservatory
Glassrooms
Similar to a traditional sunroom, with the main difference between a conservatory and a glass room is the ratio of glass to framework. With a glass room you will have views from floor to ceiling and transparency throughout the room. The walls, doors, and roof on a glassroom are all made of glass unlike conservatories with polycarbonate glazing, which is not only less attractive, but it is louder with the elements such as wind and rain, it can become tainted after a while and doesn’t hold its strength for as long as glass does.
Glassrooms are a place to extend your outdoor living throughout most of the year, while it is not seen as an extension, they are more usable than a conservatory due to them mostly always being an ample temperature with the ability to open all sides and adding accessories such as an awning and blinds, perfect for summer days and autumn evenings when it is a little cooler.
We know that Glassrooms are an investment, and they are built to last. Our expert installers are on hand to ensure you receive top quality service and fitting. While on the higher end of the pricing scale, Glassrooms are much less hassle to install, because they are not seen as a permanent structure unlike an extension or conservatory, in most cases you will not need to get planning permission. You will not need to worry about many other regulations like the alternatives due to the non-permanent structure status so you can order a glassroom with our expert sales team, have your outdoor space surveyed and let our team do the rest of the work, after 3-4 of install you can enjoy your new glassroom.
